Lamellarity

For liposomal drugs, the lamellarity, i.e. the number of membrane layers within a liposomal particle, can reflect the efficiency of the liposomal drug product. The lamellarity assessment is one of the physiochemical properties required by authorities for the release of drug products.

TEM enables a direct visualization of each individual particle and represents the perfect tool for an objective assessment of the lamellarity level of a product.

Gauge your bioprocess performance

At QuTEM, we offer lamellarity analysis of liposomal drugs using our proprietary software. First, we analyze the TEM images by detecting particles present on the images, after which a qualified scientist classifies the particles until the statistically relevant amount of data is collected. The results are then compiled in a report with example images and particle statistics.

Examples

At QuTEM, the lamellarity assessment is typically performed for the following particle types:

Innovative analysis

Our analysis workflow includes:

  • Particle detection
  • Particle classification (unilamellar particles are overlaid with blue masks, multiparticle/multilamellar ones with dark orange, uncertain ones with green)
  • Generation of a comprehensive report
